On Thursday, December 7th, the annual winter choir concert took place. It was a night full of beautiful song. “I thought the concert went really well. I thought we showed a lot of energy and passion and it was great,” stated Kasey Eck, choir teacher.

The concert started with all the choirs singing “Away in a Manger” together with soloists Hope Stowers, Ivan Wilson, Lindsey Marchant, and Max Elkins. Body percussion for this piece was done by Savannah Manley, Cynassja Maiava, Helaina Kaufmann, and Jaminfaye Reduque.

The Chamber Choir then sang “Joy to the World” and “Patapan Fantasia” followed by the Combined Women’s Choir singing “Petit Enfant” and “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day.”

The Men’s Choir then got their chance to shine as they sang “Star of Light” and “El Desembre Congelat,” a Catalan carol taught to them by dialect coach Mireia Conill-Flores, a foreign exchange student from Catalonia and a member of the women’s choir.

After the men’s choir sang their hearts out, the Advanced Women’s Choir sang ‘Waldesnacht” and “Shenandoah.” Chamber Choir came back up after to sing “The First Noel” and “Silent Night”, two very well known classics that got the crowd humming along.

Finally, all the choirs came up once more to sing “Glow” and “Sisi Ni Moja” which translates in Swahili to “We Are One.” Quinn Rasmussen played the Djembe which created a beautiful beat to the song. “It was the perfect song to end the night on, it was upbeat and made me excited for the holidays,” stated freshman Leilani Hampton.

As the last song ended, the crowd erupted in applause and a standing ovation for all the choirs, Mrs. Eck, and all others who participated in the production of the beautiful performance.
