This week’s student spotlight is senior Collin Faulk, a camp counselor and volunteer firefighter. This summer, Faulk worked on his leadership skills and helped improve the community.

Faulk was counselor at a camp called Young Life. Young Life is a well known camp across the country for middle school and high school students. In Washington, there are eight Young Life camps and at these camps, they offer a variety of activities such as zip lines, a rock wall, and wakeboarding. Young Life is camping to the max. Faulk has gone to Young Life Canyon every year since the seventh grade. The last two years he has been a camp counselor. He said, “I had such a good experience at camp that I want kids to have same experience.” Faulk invited students from Pioneer Middle School to sign up for the camp, but he prefers to be a counselor because he can be behind the scenes and see the camper’s reactions. Faulk really enjoyed being a camp counselor.

In addition to being a Young Life counselor, Faulk started training to be a firefighter on Anderson Island. His family has always been a part of the fire department and he wants to follow his family legacy. He said, “The fire department was something my family has always done and it is filled with information that interests me.” Although the training is difficult, Faulk wants to continue to learn more. In the future, Faulk wants to focus on making it big in the acting business. He plans on becoming a paramedic to pay for his acting career.
